Frequently asked questions
Is Lockinly really free?+
Yes — 100% free forever. No account, no subscription, no licence key. Every feature (Pomodoro timer, site blocker, focus mode, body doubling, stats) is included at no cost.
How do I start a focus session?+
Click the Lockinly icon in your Chrome toolbar (pin it first if you cannot see it). Enter what you are working on, pick a session length (25, 45, or 60 minutes), and click Start focus session.
Focus mode or page dimming is not working.+
Press Ctrl+Shift+F (Mac: Ctrl+Shift+F) to toggle focus mode, or turn it on in the popup. Refresh the page once after enabling. Focus mode dims the page and highlights the paragraph under your cursor — it does not work on chrome:// pages or the Chrome Web Store.
Pause or resume is not responding.+
Make sure you are on the latest version of Lockinly. Open the popup during an active session — Pause and Resume appear on the timer. If the popup shows no active session, start a new one. Reloading the extension at chrome://extensions can also help.
How do I block a website?+
Right-click anywhere on the page and choose Block this site with Lockinly. You can also add sites from Options → Blocked Sites, or block the current tab from the popup during a session. Sites are only blocked while a focus session is running (unless you enable the blocker separately).
Why was I redirected to a blocked page?+
During an active focus session, Lockinly redirects tabs to a blocked page when you visit a site on your block list. Click Go back or wait for the session to end. You can override with the breathe countdown if you enabled override friction in settings.
Does Lockinly track my browsing?+
No. Your settings, blocked sites, and session stats stay on your device. Lockinly does not read or transmit page content. The only server contact is an optional anonymous install ping (random ID + version) and feedback you choose to send on uninstall.
How do I pair Lockinly with Dyslexly?+
Install both extensions from the Chrome Web Store. Dyslexly helps with dyslexia-friendly reading; Lockinly handles focus. Each popup links to the other — use both for a complete accessibility toolkit.
Can I use Lockinly at school or through DSA?+
Yes. Lockinly collects no personal data and works offline for core features. It is suitable alongside Dyslexly for DSA and school contexts. Email us if your assessor needs documentation.
How do I export my settings or stats?+
Open Lockinly Options → Settings tab → Export settings. You will download a JSON file you can re-import later or on another device via Import settings.
